A fire you can see from two sides of the room. Quick Facts • Viewing Area: Approx. 46″ of glass wrapping the corner, in three heights. • Fuel: Natural gas or propane. • Controls: Handheld remote with thermostat; app and wall-switch control optional. • Fan: None for the room; the double-glass models use small, near-silent fans between the glass panes. Who It’s For A flat fireplace faces one direction, and in an open room that means half the seating looks at a wall instead of a flame. So the furniture ends up arranged around the fireplace’s one good angle. You need a fire that turns the corner . If your living room opens up where two walls meet and you want the fire visible from every seat , the Ortal Wilderness Corner 44 (right side) is the one. A single-face unit gives the fire to one side of the room; this one gives it to the whole room. What Makes It Special The glass turns the corner in one clean sweep— no frame and no metal post breaking the view . Most fireplaces are a picture on a wall. This one is an object in the room: you see fire from the couch, from the kitchen, from the doorway. Inside it, Ortal’s Wilderness burner stacks ceramic logs so the fire has the look of a real wood fire —logs, embers, flames rising among them—with a remote in your hand. Set the thermostat and the flame adjusts on its own to hold the room where you want it. Every model includes a heat barrier: a protective screen so fine it’s nearly invisible, or a double-glass front whose outer pane stays far cooler than the fire-side glass—worth weighing with kids in the house. The screen models can run on battery backup , so a power outage doesn’t take the fire with it, as long as you’ve kept batteries in it. Possible Downsides • Double-glass models require household power and won’t operate during an outage; choose a screen model if that matters. • The tallest glass height comes only with double glass —there’s no screen version at that height. • The glass wraps to the right only ; Ortal makes a separate left-side version if your room opens the other way. If you want the fire visible from every seat in an open room, the Wilderness Corner 44 is the right decision. The corner you used to fill with a plant becomes the reason people pick the seats facing it. Log sets come in driftwood, valley oak, or birch for natural gas or propane, and the glass comes in three heights with either a protective screen or a double-glass front, so the fire fits the room you already have.
