The Showroom

When can you visit the showroom?
Monday through Friday from 10 to 5, and Saturdays from 10 to 2 between September and April. Summer Saturdays, May through August, are by appointment. Weekdays never need one, and the phones pick up at 8 on weekdays.
Where is Timber Ridge Fireplace & Design?
3080 N Fairfield Rd #1 in Layton, Utah, on the north end of the city. The showroom keeps gas, wood, and electric fireplaces burning, with full walls of Evolve Stone, so you can compare units side by side instead of guessing from photos. Directions and a map are on the contact page.
Do you need an appointment?
Not on weekdays. Walk in any time the showroom is open. Summer Saturdays are by appointment, so call ahead between May and August. A free in-home visit is always scheduled, and you can book it from your estimate or by phone.
Which areas does Timber Ridge serve?
Eight Utah counties: Davis, Weber, Morgan, Summit, Wasatch, Salt Lake, Cache, and Box Elder, plus Evanston and Star Valley, Wyoming. Farther out, we take projects on an individual basis, so ask. See the full list of service areas.

Fireplaces, Stoves & Inserts

How much does a new fireplace cost, installed?
It depends on the unit, the venting, and the finish work, so we quote each project instead of guessing. The fastest way to a real number is the instant estimate. It prices real units, installed, for your situation in about a minute, and the free in-home visit confirms it.
What's the difference between a fireplace, an insert, and a stove?
A fireplace is built into a wall, usually in new construction or a remodel. An insert slides into a masonry fireplace you already have and turns it into a sealed, efficient heater. A stove stands on its own hearth pad, so it fits corners, basements, and cabins with no fireplace wall. All three come in gas and wood, and fireplaces and inserts also come in electric.
How do you choose between gas, wood, electric, and pellet?
Start with how you live. Push-button convenience points to gas. Heat with no dependence on the grid points to wood. A room with no way to vent points to electric. Thermostat-driven wood heat from a bag points to pellet. The showroom exists so you can compare them burning, side by side.
Will your fireplace work if the power goes out?
Wood stoves and wood fireplaces always do, because they use no electricity. Many of the gas fireplaces we carry light on a standing pilot or a battery backup, so they keep heating through an outage, though the blower won't run. Pellet stoves and electric fireplaces need power. Tell us outages matter to you, and we'll steer you to the right models.
Can the fireplace in your old masonry opening be replaced?
Usually, yes. That is exactly what inserts are for. A sealed gas or wood insert slides into the existing masonry with a liner up the chimney. There is minimal construction, and the drafty showpiece becomes a real heater. Bring the opening's width, height, and depth, or a photo.
Are gas fireplace inserts worth it?
For an open masonry fireplace, yes. An open firebox sends most of its heat up the chimney and pulls warm air out of the room with it. A sealed gas insert turns the same opening into an efficient heater you run from a remote, and most install in a day.
What's the difference between vented and vent-free gas logs?
Vented gas logs burn with the damper open. They look the most like a wood fire, and most of the heat goes up the chimney. Vent-free logs burn with the damper closed and put the heat into the room, with a smaller, cleaner flame. Your firebox and Utah code decide which options are on the table, and we walk you through it on the gas log sets page and in the showroom.

Installation & Service

Who handles the installation?
Our own crew, start to finish. Timber Ridge holds Utah general contractor license 11553773-5501 (B100 and F350), and our installers came up through construction. Demo, framing, venting, the gas line, and the finish work all run through one in-house team.
How long does an installation take?
Most gas log sets and inserts go in with a single visit once the unit is in hand. Full replacements usually run one to three days, depending on the finish work. New construction follows your build schedule: we spec at framing and finish at trim.
Do you need a permit for a fireplace?
Most installations that involve gas, venting, or structural work do. As the licensed general contractor on the job, we pull and handle the permits, and we schedule the inspection. You never touch the paperwork.
Is service available after the sale?
Yes. Our NFI-certified techs service and repair gas and wood fireplaces, inserts, and stoves across our whole service area. Two exceptions: we don't sweep chimneys or clean dryer vents, and pellet units are sales only. Schedule service here.
Does Timber Ridge service fireplaces it didn't install?
Yes. We service gas and wood units from the brands on our line card whether or not they came from us. Bring the brand and model when you schedule, and we'll tell you what to expect.
Why won't a gas fireplace stay lit?
Usually a worn thermocouple or thermopile, a dirty pilot assembly, or a valve issue. All of those are diagnosable on the first visit, and most are fixed the same day with real dealer parts. If you smell gas, turn the unit off and call us instead of using the form.
How often should a gas fireplace be serviced?
Once a year. The National Fire Protection Association's Standard 211 calls for chimneys, fireplaces, and vents to be inspected at least once a year, and an annual tune-up keeps the pilot, the burner, the glass, and the blower working the way they should. Fall is the busy season, so book early.
Good to know

Safety & Maintenance

Are gas fireplaces safe?
Yes, when they're installed and vented to code. Direct-vent fireplaces seal the firebox from the room and draw their combustion air from outside. We install on a Utah general contractor license with NFI-certified techs, so the gas line, the venting, and the clearances are done to the manufacturer's listing.
Do you need a carbon monoxide alarm with a gas fireplace?
Yes. Any home with a fuel-burning appliance should have carbon monoxide alarms, and the residential building code requires them when a fuel-burning appliance is installed. We recommend one on every level and outside the sleeping areas.
Can an electric fireplace produce carbon monoxide?
No. There is no combustion. An electric fireplace makes flame with light and heat with an element, so there is nothing to vent and no carbon monoxide.
How close can a TV or furniture be to a fireplace?
It depends on the unit. Every fireplace has listed clearances to combustibles in its manual, including how high a mantel or a TV has to sit above the opening. We check those clearances at the free in-home visit and build to them.
Is it safe to burn wood in an old open fireplace?
Only after an inspection. An old masonry fireplace needs its chimney, liner, and damper checked before the first fire of the season. We don't sweep chimneys, but we can evaluate the firebox for an insert, which is the safest and most efficient way to keep burning wood in it.

Trade, Outdoor & Stone

Does Timber Ridge work with builders, architects, and designers?
Yes. Send plans, and we return the unit spec, the venting route, the framing dimensions, and a firm quote, then hit your framing window with our own crew. Start with the A&D desk.
Does Timber Ridge sell outdoor fire features and patio heating?
Yes. Fire pits and fire tables, outdoor fireplaces, Bromic and Infratech heaters, grills and smokers, and outdoor kitchen components. Outdoor gas features get plumbed on the same contractor license as everything else. See outdoor living.
Can a gas fire pit go on a deck or under a covered patio?
Often, yes. Many gas fire tables are listed for wood decks and covered patios within the manufacturer's clearances. Wood-burning pits are harder. Send us photos of the space, and we'll tell you what works.
What is Evolve Stone?
A lightweight stone veneer with the color all the way through that installs with a finish nailer instead of mortar. A week of masonry becomes a day of finish work. We stock it, show full walls of it, and finish it around the units we install. See Evolve Stone.
Is financing available?
Yes, through Acorn. The application takes minutes, and approved financing works across the store, installation included. See the financing page.
