Who It’s For A fireplace set into a flat wall gives you one view, and in an open room half the seats face away from it. You need a fire that turns the corner with the room. If you’re building or remodeling and want the flames visible from the sofa and the dining table at once, the Ortal Corner RS 51 is the one. Pick a single-sided unit instead and the fire belongs to whichever chairs happen to face it. What Makes It Special The glass turns the corner with no frame and no post at the bend, and Ortal’s frameless European design lets your tile or stone run right to the edge of the glass —the fire looks set into the room, not boxed inside an appliance. It builds into a framed wall, so plan on finish work as part of the installation. Ortal’s Passive Cool Wall Technology keeps the wall directly above cool enough for a TV or artwork , which is exactly where most people want to put one over a corner unit. The remote does the tending for you: set a temperature and the fireplace holds the room there on its own , or run the eco setting and let the flame rise and fall through the evening. A wall switch and phone app are available if that’s how your house works. Possible Downsides • Right-corner configuration only —the glass wraps the right side of the room; Ortal builds a left-side version if your room turns the other way. • The double glass version requires household power and will not run during a power outage. • Interior lighting is an add-on , not included on this model.
