Nearly four feet of fire, wrapped around the corner. Quick Facts • Viewing Area: 46 5/16″ wide × 15 3/4″ high, turning the left corner. • Fuel: Natural gas; propane conversion available. • Controls: Handheld remote with thermostat; wall switch and app control available. Who It’s For A flat fireplace faces one direction. In an open floor plan, that means the fire anchors one seating area and is invisible from the next one over. You need a fire you can see from two sides, not one . If you’re building or remodeling around a left-hand corner—where the living room meets the dining space, say—the Ortal Corner LS 44 wraps nearly four feet of flame around that corner so both spaces get the fire. Choose a standard single-face unit instead and the fire disappears the moment you step past the wall it sits in. What Makes It Special The glass turns the corner. Instead of a fire set into a wall, you get a fire that wraps the corner itself—visible from the couch on one side and the table on the other. It builds into a framed wall during construction or a remodel, and Ortal’s frameless design lets your tile or stone run right to the edge of the glass , so the finished wall looks like it was built around the fire. The wall above it stays cool. Ortal’s passive cool wall technology means you can hang a TV or artwork directly above the fireplace , so the corner does double duty instead of forcing a choice between the fire and the screen. Every unit includes the required safety barrier, and you choose its form: a protective mesh screen in front of the glass, or the double-glass version, which uses a second pane as the barrier so nothing sits between you and the fire . Possible Downsides • Left-corner glass only. If your room calls for the fire to wrap the right side, the Corner RS 44 is the mirror of this unit. • The double-glass version needs household power and won’t run during an outage; the protective-screen version doesn’t share that limitation. • Interior lighting is optional on this model, not included. If you want the fire visible from two sides of the room, the Corner LS 44 is the right decision. The corner you weren’t sure what to do with becomes the spot everyone ends up around. The LS 44 comes with your choice of included log sets—standard, weathered driftwood, refractory clay, or English style—plus upgrade media from bonfire and campfire logs to aspen logs and charred branches, an optional black reflective interior, and interior lighting.
