A standard fire pit burns wood just fine; you’ll just spend the evening trading seats every time the breeze changes. The Timberwolf is built so you don’t have to. What Makes It Special The dual-layer burn zone is the whole trick. Air comes in through the venting around the base, moves up between the walls, and feeds the fire through two rows of vent holes , so the fire burns hotter and most of the smoke gets consumed before it ever reaches your chair. That second layer of air also does its work during start-up and burn-down, the two stages where an ordinary fire pit smokes the most, so the fire behaves from the first match to the last coals. Living with it is just as simple. Ash falls into a drop-in, removable tray : lift it out, dump it, done, and the ash never piles up where it would choke the airflow. The body is 304 stainless steel, the carry handle is included, and if you add charcoal and the optional cast iron grid, the same fire cooks dinner. It moves from patio to campsite the way a cooler does. Possible Downsides • Cooking requires the optional cast iron cooking grid. It is not included with the fire pit. • This is the stainless steel finish. The phantom black finish is a separate medium model. • Wood, pellets, and charcoal are the only fuels. There is no gas version, so every fire is lit and tended by hand. If you want evenings around a real wood fire without spending them dodging the smoke, the Timberwolf is the right decision.
